Free Comic Book Day, and Biochem

Image
This weekend marks the last week of classes. I had two exams, one for Biochem and one for Environmental Sciences. I did pretty bad on the Biochem test (well I guess a B isn't so bad, BUT I REALLY WANTED AN A!!!) and as for the ES test, I'll know my scores on Monday. Ugh. Monday. Such a crucial day. It will decide my fate for the next three days, whether I'll be in Batangas with my block, or in school with my ES book. (Speaking of the ES book, why on Earth did the ES department print it double-spaced? Think of all the trees they could've saved with 1.5 spacing. Maybe they were doing it to be ironic.) Anyway. Summer classes are coming to a close, and most of the Health Sci juniors have been spending lots of time creating a Biochem board game. Yeah, you heard me right. For our Biochem project, we're required to make a board or card game involving Biochemistry principles. The project is equivalent to one long test, so you can imagine how seriously we're taking ...

an ordinary day

(Okay fine. Since everyone's been updating their blogs I guess I should as well, even if I don't have anything to write about. Hello, peer pressure!) I woke up at 7 today in a rush to not be late for jogging at the Covered Courts. Between me and my faithful partner-in-fitness Rap, I'm usually the one who comes in late, but today it seemed like I had arrived at Ateneo first. I used that time to buy myself some two pieces of polvoron. It was a sorry excuse for a breakfast, but it would suffice. One hurriedly-consumed polvoron later and I found myself somewhere near the Jesuit residences, jogging to Poison's Talk Dirty to Me . I noticed someone on my right whom I thought I knew. Lo and behold, I did know him; he was Sir TJ, the old moderator of my high school paper! I waved hi and greeted him happy birthday in advance. Fast forward some thirty minutes. We were finally able to do three laps around our track, but I was too exhausted to feel any sense of accomplishment...

Blogging again to maximize the remaining time I have with the awesome wi-fi here at home. I'm going back to Manila tomorrow. I'm gonna wake up at four in the morning and endure an hour-twenty-minute flight, hopefully arriving just in time for my swimming class at 10. Let me seeeee, what else. I have Economics homework I haven't done, a Statistics exam on Thursday, and then German and Biology exams on Friday. Why have I not done any work this weekend? Oh, right. Because I am a lazy bum. Oh well. I'd been excited to see this exhibit called Dinosaurs Alive! ever since I heard about it in December, but I was bummed to find out that I wouldn't be around when they came to CDO. Two months later and surprise surprise, the weekend of the show happens to be a long holiday for Ateneo! Woohoo! Today, my parents said that we wouldn't be going to the show because so many people said it sucked. But I forced  coerced my family into going anyway, just for the heck of i...

dorms and Dogz

This morning was rather... uneventful. My first (and only) class of the day was at 1:30, so I was free to spend the morning tagging along with Rap as he went about fussing over his ID picture.     We went to the libe and bumped into Jules. Serendipity! The three of us then had lunch at JSEC. (Tip: Get the Dynasty Meal from the Great Stall of China! You won't find a better deal in Ateneo!) There we ran into Chris, our ex-InTACT student facilitator, and we talked about Chinese medicine, magnets, and network marketing.     At 1:30, I had Statistics with my block. It's in an aircon classroom with computers for everyone! n_n It's a fun class. Our teacher is Ma'am Leslie Lopez, and she's cutesy and has the ability to read people's minds.     Our class ended at 3:00, and after that I had nothing to do. As all of my blockmates scurried off to their respective classes (some Environmental Science, some Filipino), I figured I'd make good us...

unproductivity

Image
I've got a ton of things to work on tonight, but thanks to my short attention span and my inability to commit myself to doing one task at a time, I shall blog! Hooray for unproductivity!        Just a quick narration of the day's events (because I can practically hear my partner for my Filipino paper drumming his fingers on his table in impatience). I stayed up late working on a comic strip for my friends Alessi, Jani, and Arthur. It's about two superheroes named Soaperman and Sipilyo Ranger, and here's what a bit of the comic strip looks like:        I do hope I can finish it in time, what with all my procrastination and blogging.         Since the first class of the day was at 1:30, I also spent the whole morning working on the comic strip. Lunch was, again, siomai (which, thanks to aforementioned Fil partner, I now know is made from "pig and old pig").       ...

a normal day

I really haven't been in the mood to write lately. I don't know if it's some brain chemistry thing associated with the weather (they say cold weather causes a chemical imbalance in the brain, making people sadder), but I've just lost the urge to type out the entire proceedings of my day for all the strangers on the Internetz to see. However, upon the prodding of certain friends (hi, Rap and Andy), I. Will. Write. After all, the show must go on, and the uncreative blogger must feign creativity. I don't really know what's in it for you, dear reader, but in writing this, I supposedly benefit from the theraputic nature of blogging. And then there's that other thing about my future grandchildren finding this blog and saying, "Oh look, Grandma wrote that!" (Ugh. How creepy does that sound? Hello, grandkids. Ack! So very creepy.) But what exactly do YOU benefit from reading this? You will have wasted around five minutes of your time, that's what. Fi...

friday night incoherence

The following events are the main constituents of my day: Cram-wrote the introduction and conclusion of the first draft of my research paper today. :| It sucks so much it puts black holes to shame.  Attended a Gawad Kalinga talk for Health Sci majors with most of the block. I know now that I made the right choice in choosing Health Sci and in coming to Ateneo.  And, hey. Is it me, or did the speaker at the GK talk just say that they needed more men and less women to volunteer because women only give birth? :| First (and last) Ma 20.3A long test of 2010!!! I think I did pretty well for someone who still doesn't know what a derivative is (Yeah yeah yeah, it's the slope of the line tangent to the graph, yadda yadda yadda. What is all that even supposed to mean!? :|) Kapelikula with the Rapster! We watched three awesome short films from director Raymond Red. Also, I recommend that all of you come to next year's Kapelikula. It is a very wonderful and rewarding activity bro...

Filipino reading

I can summarize my day in one paragraph: Woke up at 7, went to school, was forced to play this really dorky (and kind of fun) role-playing game for INTAC class, had Chemistry class and got a B on my previous lab report. And now I really want to get an A on something. Anyway, here's our reading assignment for tomorrow's Filipino. I'm posting it for the benefit of the masses who can't seem to find a copy online. Yeah, I'm a plagiarist now. Wala namang masasalo, kunsabagay. Makakatalik lamang sa balat hininga ng Santin...

three days in pictures

Image
Lately I've been coming back to the dorm too tired do much else other than take a bath, Skype, and Facebook. Writing takes a lot of energy, okay! So, for all the days I've missed to post, here is a barrage of pictures I took with my cellphone with quick recaps: Tuesday, June 15 First day of classes. I actually did write about this day in a previous post , but I guess I forgot to post these marvelous pictures of the Church of the  Gesù .  I went here after classes with Andy, Ren and Elisa, my friends from Health Sciences (I can't say "blockmates" because Elisa is from XX1.) . . . Wednesday, June 16  English 12 in the Bellarmine Building was the first thing in the morning - teacher is Mr. Maximo Pulan!!! I was chosen to be one of the five people to go up on stage and create the beginning of a fairy tale, word by word (one word per person!). It turned out to be something about a beanstalk and a mouse and a slab of cheese that turned black when "I" ate i...

first day of classes

The day I'd been looking forward to since setting foot in Manila: first day of college! Come to think about it, a college education is actually the whole reason why I'm here. Oh, but not just a college education, but a holistic learning experience and spiritual formation you can only find in the Ateneo. (Shameless school promotion, anyone?) Right. So. I woke up at 6:15, fell asleep, then woke up at 6:30. When I checked my phone after I showered, I panicked because Rap, my blockmate and ally in the war of the races (HALF CHINESE FTW IN YOUR FACE ALBERT YOU KOREAN YOU), was already asking me where I was. I grabbed the nearest pack of Sky Flakes and started dipping the pieces in cheese spread like hell. Breakfast ;) Met up with Andy, Karl, Rap and Kaye at the Gonzaga cafeteria and then caught up with a few more blockmates. We went to our first class of the day, Filipino 11. When we got to the classroom in Berchman's Hall, Room 209, we found most of our other blockmates...

Monday is in bullet form

Because I'm too lazy to write a real paragraph. Woke up at Auntie Luching's house (Oh, and I had a really, really bad dream last night!) Didn't feel like P. Diddy (how many times have I used this "joke" already?) Breakfast was chorizo and fried rice. Ahh, home-cooked meals. <3 Made the most out of the wi-fi because I knew that Internet would be crappy from then on Received chocolate from my cousins <3 <3 <3  Was very happy Rode with Kuya Karl back to the dorm. Signed up for a day of Dorminet (Dorm Internet. Pretty clever, huh?) Dorminet is fast, but unreliable, because one moment it's there, and the next - poof! Lunch by myself at KFC. It was the first time since coming here that I ate alone, I think.  Went to Rustan's to buy that sponge thingy you use to scrub yourself with - just because I needed an excuse to go over there :D (I like Rustan's, okay.) More Internet when I got back to the dorm. Ugh things got extremely boring ...
