Free Comic Book Day, and Biochem
This weekend marks the last week of classes. I had two exams, one for Biochem and one for Environmental Sciences. I did pretty bad on the Biochem test (well I guess a B isn't so bad, BUT I REALLY WANTED AN A!!!) and as for the ES test, I'll know my scores on Monday.
Ugh. Monday. Such a crucial day. It will decide my fate for the next three days, whether I'll be in Batangas with my block, or in school with my ES book. (Speaking of the ES book, why on Earth did the ES department print it double-spaced? Think of all the trees they could've saved with 1.5 spacing. Maybe they were doing it to be ironic.)
Anyway. Summer classes are coming to a close, and most of the Health Sci juniors have been spending lots of time creating a Biochem board game. Yeah, you heard me right. For our Biochem project, we're required to make a board or card game involving Biochemistry principles. The project is equivalent to one long test, so you can imagine how seriously we're taking it. At first I was really excited to work on this with my groupmates, but now after having spent two weeks discussing cards and game rules, all my enthusiasm has gone down the drain.
Exhibit A. I was supposed to go jogging this morning, but I spent it instead working on the mat for my group's card game. Here's my progress so far. (Click to enlarge. But need I tell you this?)
All that's left to be done with that "cell" is to add a carbohydrate part (which should go in that blank space between the protein and nucleus). I know I know, cells look nothing like this, BUT WHATEVER BRO I'M TRYING TO BE CREATIVE HERE.
Once I get started on an editing project, I can spend hours sitting down in front of my computer without noticing the time. But I was able to tear myself away from my laptop in the middle of working on this to go to Fully Booked Katipunan for FREE COMIC BOOK DAY! I got there a little after their doors opened (around ten o'clock). There were only three kinds of comics there: Spiderman, The New 52, and an Avengers comic. I'm not a comic book fan, so I was impartial to all three and I didn't know which to get. But pretty soon as more people started coming, I noticed that the Avengers issue was running out quick. So I quickly grabbed one before someone else could. I felt really special after that because I thought it was the last copy there, but Rap told me later that later on that they opened another box full of those things. Okay. :< (Update: Why were there only three kinds of comic books available? There are so many in this picture that Fully Booked uploaded to their Facebook page.)
Anyway, after getting my free comic book, I found something else that was great there: Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist! I've been meaning to buy that ever since I saw the movie last year, but Fully Booked (and National Book Store) never had a copy available. So when I saw a copy lying around on a shelf, I grabbed it and thanked my lucky stars.
However now I do have a LOT to read. I still have some books unread from my previous To-Read pile (ahem, Life of Pi). Ugh. I'm never going to hear the end of it from my bibliophile of a sister, Caitlin. But hey, that's what summer break is for! (Okay not really.)
After escaping to Fully Booked for a while, I went back to the condo to work on the Biochem project. Several hours later my brain just stopped functioning and I had to do something other than work on my computer. So I took out my camera and took this picture.
And this picture:
Okay, I never take pictures of my clothes, but this time I just had to. My mom went shopping yesterday and bought me this shirt that I really love. I cannot let it go unpictured! She got me a lot of awesome shirts as well, but this has to be my favorite. When I called her up to ask about it, she said she wasn't even sure I'd like it! Oh, she also bought me a very beautiful (and classy!) birthday dress. I don't know if I'll get to wear it on my actual birthday, because my family and I never go anywhere where we need to dress up fancy. But I'll definitely hang on to it, just in case!
I guess that's it. Sighhhhhh. Now I have to get back to work. Carbohydrates, here I come.

The orange stuff is the cell membrane. The green tangle is a protein. And the purple thing is a nucleus with unnaturally large DNA. |

You should really read, "Life of Pi" when you get the chance.:) The book is very good, the second half especially.
ReplyDeleteYeahhhh. My friends (and sister) have all been recommending it to me. Now I'm so confused about which book to prioritize :))
ReplyDeleteI like the shirt! and I like how the board thingie you're making looks so far! XD

ReplyDeletethe board thing you made looked like a living room floor plan - the nucleus looked like a big purple beanie bag. :-) like your shirt too!
ReplyDeleteand the nucleus beanie bag is right in front of the protein... potted plant? haha. thanks! :)
