Thank you, ASMPH

Right now, the inside of my head feels all fuzzy and my eyes are impossibly puffy. It's because I've been crying and crying and crying these past few hours, and the reason for that is that around 8 PM tonight, as I was about to dig into a salad, I got a call from Mr. Peabody. Mr. Peabody works for the financial aid committee of the Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health, and when I saw his name flashing on the screen of my phone as it rang, I was not expecting good news. I knew the scholarship results were supposed to come out tomorrow, so the fact that he was already calling me at this hour probably meant something bad. It probably meant that I didn't make it, and that he wanted to break the news to me gently, before the list came out and before the scholars started celebrating. Our conversation went like this: Hello Aimee? Hello? Yes, Sir. Hi. Hello. So we've made a decision already.  Yes sir? (Internal dialogue: HOLY CRAP THIS IS IT. LET ME DOWN EASY. D...

schedule, and amazing news

So today was enlistment for freshmen. I got fencing as my PE! Not bad, I think, considering I was in the last batch, and people from the last batch hardly ever get any good PE's. So, anyway, onto the good news: My mom called the BPI Foundation earlier and told them what my QPI was, and they said that it passes their requirements for my scholarship! In other words, I still have my scholarship, which means - I'M STAYING FOR TWO MORE SEMS!!! Oh, praise God. I'm so extremely happy right now, you have no idea. You have no idea. :D

oh dear.

I just don't understand Math as well as my classmates do. Every Math class, I have to struggle to keep up with the lessons. If this were a race, it seems like my blockmates would be sprinting towards the finish line, and I wouldn't even be halfway there. Math math math math math. Axioms and the table of signs and proving and inequalities... It just doesn't come naturally to me. Now, I'm really, really scared of getting a bad grade in Math and then losing my scholarship. I wouldn't even be here if not for the money given to me by the BPI Foundation. My parents simply can't afford to pay the tuition here. If not for my BPI scholarship, I'd be in Xavier University right now, studying Nursing, living the cushy life back in Cagayan de Oro... D'awww! I can't lose my scholarship. I just CAN'T. I don't wanna go to Xavier!!! I LOVE IT HEEEEEERE!!!! Okay. Here's what I'm gonna do. I'm going to make use of one of the consultancy...

letters from GMA

Image
Guess who just got a letter from Gloria Macapagal Arroyo. It arrived in the mail this morning (two of them actually), and we were like, “WTH?!” We thought that it was obviously a fake, because it was spelled “Malacañan” and not “Malacañang,” but when I checked the Internet, it turns out that Malacañan is the official English name of the Palace! Weird. How come I never knew that? x_x Anyway, the letter makes references to a government scholarship of some sort. My dad says it’s probably just GMA’s way of saying, “Hey. I GAVE you that scholarship, so LIKE ME, you effin ingrate! ” But you know what I’m thinking? Anthraaaaax! :O

DOST scholarship orientation

Image
Yesterday afternoon, my dad and I went to attend the DOST (Dept. of Science and Technology) scholarship orientation. I learned that I had been granted the scholarship more than a month ago, but I never really factored it into how I reached a decision about my college and course. See, one of the rules you have to comply with if you're gonna receive the scholarship is your choice of course has to be among their list of Priority Courses, namely, a Science, Engineering or Education in Science and Engineering course. Problem is, my chosen course, BS Health Sciences, isn't on the list. It really makes me wonder why not. BS Health Sciences sounds just as science-y as Biology, or Chemistry, or Computer Science. Heck, it's even got the word Sciences in its name! Nonetheless, my dad and I were going to attend the orientation anyway, so we could ask the DOST people if they would consider BS Health Sciences as a priority course. Chances were slim, but there's no harm in trying,...

how i reached a decision

So this was my plan. It was so clear to me back then: If I don't pass the UPCAT, I'm going to XU. As for my choice of course, it was a toss-up between Computer Science and Biology. For me, getting to that point where I had only two courses to choose from was already a big accomplishment, considering that my previous list of course choices was anything but short. I had so many plans: take Political Science, proceed to Law and become a lawyer. Take something in communications like Journalism or MassCom and work in the advertising biz. I even considered going to Bigfoot Studios in Cebu and taking up Filmography! Filmography!!! My parents played a big role in my indecision. Being the awesome people that they are, they told me that they'd support me whichever school I went to, whichever course I decided to pick. There was no one around to tell me, "No you can't study in Manila," or, "You have no future in that course." In fact, not one little chuckle ...
