summer in CDO
It's summer, and tons of bikini pictures from my friends' vacations have been popping up on my Facebook news feed. I remember when I was a freshman (wow that was two years ago) and my new friends and I somehow got to talking about swimwear. I said, "Why do girls let people see themselves in bikinis? They provide about as much coverage as underwear." "Why, what do you wear to the beach?" they asked me. "A one-piece," I said. They looked at me like O___O (Let it be known henceforth that these friends were all guys.) And then they explained to me that bikinis were sort of the standard in Manila. Everyone wore one. Everyone, even the people I had thought were conservative dressers.
This was news to me because I had previously thought that bikinis were for, well, sluts. I mean, letting people see you in your bikini is like letting them see you in your underwear! I'm pretty sure I don't want to give random beach people the privilege of seeing me almost naked. Tough luck, buddy. I'm sticking to my one-piece.
Just recently I went shopping for a new swimsuit (because I lost my old one in a trike), so I went online looking for some ideas. I was fortunate enough to have stumbled upon this awesome online store that sells modest yet very cute swimwear. Here's the link.
Anyway, after dozens of postponements and delays, I was finally able to meet up with my best friends yesterday! We walked around Xavier University for a while, and then went to Chingkeetea for some excellent, excellent drinks and interior design that could give Moonleaf a run for its money.
Ugh. That reminds me. I'm going to have dinner tonight with some family I don't know. They are probably going to interrogate me about things and I am going to be forced to act civilized in exchange for their food. LORD HELP ME

It was a lot of fun, checking out all the places XU students frequented. I wish I had seen more old friends, but fortunately for them, they weren't around campus because they didn't have summer classes to enroll for.
Speaking of summer classes, check out my summer schedule. When Micha saw it she said "ANG GANDA." I think so too.
I realized recently that having summer classes is pretty awesome. I can't imagine what I'd be doing with my time if I didn't have them. Eight whole weeks of just lying around the house and surfing the Internet? Goodness. So fat I would be. Fat and socially deprived.

I wear a two-piece but I'm not a slut. I didn't have sex yet and don't plan to anytime soon. having sex too young is slutty. not wearing a bikini.

Hi Anonymous! Thanks for commenting. :) When I said in my above entry that I previously thought bikinis were for sluts, I wanted to place emphasis on the word "previously." That's not my frame of thought anymore. :)
It's cool that you've got the confidence to wear a two-piece. I really admire that, that's something I wish I had.
But about that comment about having sex too young being slutty, I think that can be open to debate.
I was doing some reading about slut-shaming, and it's what happens when women are made to feel ashamed for being sexual. This is not a rare thing to find in our world. For example, there's the common notion that when girls have sex, they're being slutty. But when boys do it, they're just being boys. It's a double standard.
Personally, I think adolescents should wait until they're older (and with someone they really, really care about) before they have sex. But I wouldn't go as far as calling having sex at a young age "slutty."
Anyway, thanks for writing. I really appreciate it. That's one of the comments that really got me thinking. :)) Hope you comment again on other things as well. :)
