SATURDAY FAIL

I forgot the PAWS volunteer orientation was today.

Instead of signing myself up and learning the ropes around the Animal Rehabilitation Center, I spent the whole day in my dorm, playing Pokemon Leaf Green on a GameBoy emulator. And to think that this was the day I'd been looking forward to since classes started! :|

Looks like I'll have to wait until next year for the next orientation. :|

In other news, it's been two weeks into the semester and it's still been pretty good. Mr. Pulan actually complimented us ("us" being the whole of my English block) on a job well done writing our personal essays. He said something along of how he could see why we were placed in Advanced English, and that we had some real talent. But then he said that we can't just be satisfied with knowing how to write well. He said that we had to push ourselves intellectually and take on more complex topics.

This, I think, is one creative ploys of his to get us inspired in writing our research papers. Well, ploy or not ploy, I'll take a compliment from Mr. Pulan any day. That was the first time he ever congratulated us on anything!

Also, I've always felt like the worst student in his class because I never was able to get a strong grip on the concepts behind the essays he gave out, most unlike certain classmates of mine (*ahem* DeoAlessiCheryl *ahem*) who took to the essays like fish to the sea. Like birds to the air. Like mice to the cheddar. Like gazelles to the watering holes. Like calves to the cow's utters.*

Yes. They were the baby cows that so fervently latched their teeth of knowledge into the milk glands of understanding on the cow of critical thinking. (Lo and behold my writing prowess!)

Anyway. My research paper is about how imprisonment is not rehabilitative for children in conflict with the law in the Philippines. Simply put, I'm saying that kids should not be put in prison, no matter the severity of the crime. And I just want to clarify right here that the term "juvenile delinquent" is a term we might want to avoid, since the word "delinquent" itself already implies guilt, and not all children in prison have been proven guilty. And even if they have been proven guilty, it is still unclear whether we can really blame them for their actions. Some really poor children are forced to steal food when they (or their parents) can't afford to buy any. The more politically correct compassionate term to use would be "children in conflict with the law", or CICL.

Just sayin'.
. . .
Unrelated yet somehow slightly relevant conversation of the day:
Me: So I'm sitting here in the dark. Playing Pokemon. I am such a loser.
Jean: So I've noticed.

*Udders. Thank you, Rob.

  4. What if the kid killed his parents and did it so he/she could have their money?
He/She also left evidence everywhere like the murder weapon was in his/her hand and he/she even admits he/she did it. THAT kid belongs in prison.

  5. Rob: Thanks. I am so emmbbarased right now. ._.

Cheryl: >:D< Aren't we all, Cheryl. Aren't we all.

Cait: No, because no kid would ever naturally think of doing something as evil as that. Something must have trigged him or her to kill his or her parents, like maybe a history of physical abuse.

  7. What if the kid is truly evil? I mean, sure, every kid is, but this kid is Voldy-evil. He/She thought of it all by himself/herself. What would people do then?

  8. Find the Room of Requirement and form Dumbledore's Army in an attempt to beat the kid.

COME ON, CAIT. No kid would ever, EVER naturally think of acting on evil thoughts. They all have to come from somewhere, like maybe poor parenting.
