change

I like to think that I'm rather open to changes. As a kid I had always thought of myself as adventurous. Look back on things, however, I realize that I wasn't quite as daring or audacious as I would've liked myself to be. For instance I remember how strongly I protested when my mom gave me chocolate milk that was a brand other than my favorite (it was Sustagen. My old favorite, that is). Or how I was never eager to go on family trips to the bukids (that isn't to say that I didn't enjoy those outings; I most certainly did. It's just that I was slow to warm up to the idea of stepping beyond the four walls of my home).      And then I thought myself very adventurous when I agreed to living on my own in Manila. College, as they say, is the adventure of a lifetime (actually they say marriage is, but I'm sticking to college for now). And now that I've tried out the independent lifestyle for almost a year now, I can say with all certainty that it is ...

the day before summer classes start

Look how vain I've become. You can now Like my blog on Facebook, but it's not a fan page or anything. Ooh, technology. Anyway, I had an awesome weekend. Saturday marked my parents' sweetheart anniversary, so we went out to celebrate by eating at Butcher's Best! If the name of the place doesn't sound all that romantic, that's because it isn't. It's always full of people, and there isn't a lot of space, and the walls are covered in a mural depicting Chinese people grilling meat. But if you ever happen to be in Cagayan de Oro, that's the first place you must eat at. I dare you to find better sisig! After dinner we went to SM to watch Rio. The last time I saw a movie in a cinema was during SOSE Movie Night, and that was the latest Harry Potter! I love Rio by the way, you should go buy your self a ticket and see it right now! It's funny! It's charming! It's farming ! (Forget I said that.) The colors are amazing, and the music is jus...

the last weekend in Manila, 2010 edition

I have done absolutely nothing today. I repeat. NOTHING. Nothing productive, that is, except maybe tidying the room up a bit. My things are no longer invading my roommates' desk spaces, and all the dust bunnies I've been nursing since the start of the sem have been set freeeee. What am I still doing in my now dustless dorm room when it's so close to Christmas and I should be at home with my family watching Christmas specials on TV, you ask? Well, Ateneo's break starts on the 23rd, which is only five days away from now. Until then, I've got school for three more days.  Sigh. There's no one to talk to in my room. Ara and Jean are both in their respective homes now (UP Diliman's Christmas break started on the 18th), so I'm left with the- :| There's this lady that sits on the bench outside Ken Afford, which is right beneath my room (both Ken Afford AND the bench, I mean), and every night she starts yelling at nobody in particular. She's yellin...

SATURDAY FAIL

I forgot the PAWS volunteer orientation was today. Instead of signing myself up and learning the ropes around the Animal Rehabilitation Center, I spent the whole day in my dorm, playing Pokemon Leaf Green on a GameBoy emulator. And to think that this was the day I'd been looking forward to since classes started! :| alsdfj aslf jas; zas a[sklf as; Looks like I'll have to wait until next year for the next orientation. :| In other news, it's been two weeks into the semester and it's still been pretty good. Mr. Pulan actually complimented us ("us" being the whole of my English block) on a job well done writing our personal essays. He said something along of how he could see why we were placed in Advanced English, and that we had some real talent. But then he said that we can't just be satisfied with knowing how to write well. He said that we had to push ourselves intellectually and take on more complex topics. This, I think, is one creative ploys of ...
