toy stores

Image
In recent years, I've really come to hate toy stores. Yeah, you heard me right: I. Hate. Toy. Stores. It's not the toys I hate, it's the stores. Toy stores are so evil. And what's even more evil is that they probably don't realize how evil they are. I hate them because I think toy stores are largely responsible for perpetuating stupid gender stereotypes. Don't believe me? Check this out. I visited Toys R' Us in Robinsons Galleria the other day to shop for a gift for Rap's brother, Gabriel, and here's what I saw. Not many people will see anything wrong with this. So I must explain. The picture on top shows the signs marking the "boys' section" of the store, and the picture below shows the same for the girls'. Notice how the boys' section, which contains robots and daggers and arrows and rockets and even some really cool Adventure Time merch, is labelled "Action and Adventure." The girls' section, cont...

post V-day blogging II

Image
Econ test tomorrow, doing nothing today. Ehh screw it. My teacher's not gonna give me a good score anyway. So here I am, blogging~ Here's a little recap of the week: Tuesday I thought I had prepared really well for the Statistics exam. But... no. u_u Also, Rap got me a nice edible flower for Valentine's. n_n It's still here, just slightly nibbled on because I wish to preserve it. Andy got all the girls in Bio class (even our teacher, Ma'am Canlas) a nice, long-stemmed rose. Aww. I used to think that Valentine's Day was stupid, and that if you really loved somebody, you would show it to them every day of the year as opposed to every Feb 14. But on this day, all around the campus you could see all sorts of grand gestures of love - public serenades (there was even one that I actually participated in ahihihihi. You're welcome, Karl.), giant bouquets, boys dressed in suits and girls wearing pretty dresses. While seeing them doesn't actually make me f...

Musikero

IT'S HERE! It's finally here! It's that Sem-Ender promo vid that Rap, Jules, Dino and I made! Go check it out (and have a look-see at the original too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a2iZ0nlpgkM&feature=related). ALSO: "MUSIKERO presents OPM Night"  Last Friday evening, Cheryl and I performed for Musikero's Open Mic Night at the Aerie! We called ourselves "Wine Bottles" (a reference to this video ). We sang "When You're Gone" by Avril Lavigne and "You and I" by Lady Gaga. Well, Cheryl sang, and I was the out-of-tune backup singer/guitarist. I really wish someone had taken a video of our performance, because I heard we weren't all that bad! We are Wiiine Bottles!  Me, Jules, Bel, Cheryl and Andy. Thanks for the support ;_; Jules gave us a nice big hug afterwards and said, "Watch out for these girls because they're gonna make it big!" AWWWWWWWW. ;_; I really love Musikero. It's a non-ac...

the Bagong Silang XX-posure trip

Image
Yesterday, Block XX had its required INTACT (Introduction to Ateneo Culture) exposure trip to Bagong Silang, the largest barangay in the Philippines. Because we're Health Sci majors, yesterday was only the first of numerous visits we're going to be paying to Bagong Silang as part of a five-year partnership with Gawad Kalinga aimed at improving the health system in the barangay. Our mission was to educate the kids a bit about healthy habits.             I loved every bit of the trip. It takes a bit more than an hour going to Bagong Silang from Ateneo via jeep. (Ateneo provided us with three jeeps, so there quite a bit of leg room. Ateneo also provided snacks for us and the kids!) Thankfully, the jeep ride was fun fun fun. We sang songs the whole time!                       When we arrived, we were split into three groups and given a small tou...
