perils
There was a tsunami in Japan today. Tsunamis are expected to hit other countries later today as well.
I was at rehearsals for our Lit play earlier when I heard the news. My friend asked me, "Hey Aimee, what province are you from again?" "Cagayan de Oro," I replied. He consulted his laptop and then turned to me with a grim face and said, "Cagayan's on the list of provinces expected to be hit by a tsunami later."
I excused myself and stepped out to call my mom, who then calmly quelled my fears by telling me that what was up on that list was not Cagayan de Oro, but the province of Cagayan (in Luzon).
I breathed. My family was fine. My friends were fine. I wanted to cry.
. . .
I wish there were something I could do for the people affected by the calamity. Prayer is the only thing I can offer at the moment, but prayer isn't exactly as directly effective as personally handing a disaster victim a bag of relief goods. It's the best we can do.
